My government at work

I heard an all-too-believeable story this morning on the way in to work. The short radio piece summarized that Governor Culver has suspended payments to consulting firm A.T. Kearney.

The reason? The company has thus far received $3.7 Million for identifying $2.9 Million of savings. Brilliant!

A closer reading of the particulars of the story is bittersweet. Although we find the expected levels of governmental incompetance and even possible malfeasance, it turns out that the $2.9 Million refers to annual savings. So that's good news, I guess, for Iowa taxpayers and bad news, I guess, for Bloggers looking for good material.
